From hot to cold

Although the temperature here has been hovering in the 50s and a jacket is necessary for outside, inside had been a different story.  It was hot inside, practically anywhere you went but especially our own apartment.  You see, there is a radiator in every room that we have no control over.  It just got hotter and hotter.  We opened windows but that lets in a lot of dirt.  Our landlords suggested turning on the air conditioner but we decided just to bear with it.  I wondered why I hadn't brought more cool pajama pants and less leggings.  Sam on the other hand, brought all the pajama pants/shorts he owned. (I have no idea why.)  But all that changed about a day or two ago.  On March 15 they turned those radiators off and now we have hit the other end of the spectrum.  Now, I'm cold everywhere!  Before, when we were so hot, I didn't bother to buy blankets. Now I'm adding that as an asap item to my shopping list.  Hopefully today we will be purchasing the last of some much needed household items.

People keep asking Sam and I : "Xiguan le ma?"  I thought: huh?  Then I looked it up.  It means: are you use to things, have you got into the habit, or are settled? The answer is, no.  At least, not yet.  We are working on it.  Being sick definitely puts a damper on getting things set up.  Of course Sam is doing a lot more than me lately.  When I was really sick he would go grocery shopping and get food for me.  He even brought me mashed potatoes from KFC.  (Not quite the same but close enough.)  One day he brought me some food in bed then walked out of the room.  When he walked back in, he started talking about something that happened but I said :"Why are you wearing bright pink lipstick?"  He replied: "No, its lip balm.  I bought it at the market."  I busted up laughing and told him to go look in a mirror.  He had the brightest pinkest lips.  I laughed so hard I cried.  And I got to keep the "lip balm" too!
